Dan Doyle, P.E. | President | Grumman / Butkus Associates
Mr. Doyle is president of Grumman / Butkus Associates (G/BA), nationally recognized energy management consultants and design engineers, located in Evanston, Illinois. For the past 30 years, Mr. Doyle’s career has focused on energy conservation and efficiency improvements in new and existing buildings, especially the more energy intensive and mission critical facilities, such as laboratories, clean rooms, hospitals and data centers. Over the years, Mr. Doyle has received several local, regional and national design awards from ASHRAE and the U.S. / Illinois Departments of Energy for energy conservation retrofits in existing buildings. Two of these award-winning projects include upgrades to laboratory buildings at the Amoco Research Center in Naperville, Illinois and the Kraft Foods Technology Center in Glenview, Illinois. Within ASHRAE Doyle has served as President of the Illinois Chapter and chaired the Chapter’s Energy Committee for two years. Doyle currently serves on the Board of Directors of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) and has served as a judge for R&D Magazine’s Lab of the Year competition.
Michael H. Elliott| CEO | Atrium Research
Michael Elliott is founder and president of Atrium Research, a market research firm focusing on laboratory technology. Mr. Elliott’s 25+ year technology career began as a clinical research chemist at Indiana University Medical Center. In 1983, he joined the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, the largest analytical instrument company, as a technical consultant and support representative. His career progressed into many positions including sales, field operations director, VP of worldwide marketing, and pharmaceutical division VP and general manager. In 2000, he joined Scientific Software, Inc., (now part of Agilent Technologies) as SVP responsible worldwide operations, growing the company from a small supplier of chromatography software to a major player in laboratory data management. Michael has been quoted for his expertise in numerous international publications, presented at seminar and conferences in over 20 countries, and has published major market studies on laboratory informatics. He is on the editorial review board of Scientific Computing and is also a frequent contributor to the magazine.

Randy Hice | President | Laboratory Expertise Center
Randy Hice is the president and CEO of Laboratory Expertise Center, Inc. (LEC), a laboratory automation consulting firm. Randy has worked in laboratory automation for 20+ years, and first developed laboratory workflow analysis in 1989. Prior to working with LEC, Randy was a software and business consultant for LIMS for Digital Equipment Corporation. Randy's activities at LEC include global strategic analysis for large-scale LIMS and laboratory automation initiatives. He also directs a team of LEC consultants who perform laboratory workflow analysis, LIMS user requirements development, system selection, and LIMS project design and implementation. Randy also is a contributing monthly editor on laboratory data management for Scientific Computing magazine and a member of the publication's editorial board.

Don Joyce, Ph.D. | Deputy Laboratory Director | Argonne National Laboratory
As deputy laboratory director, Don Joyce is responsible for programmatic and business activities in support of Argonne National Laboratory's director. Previously, as deputy to the director, Dr. Joyce oversaw Argonne's technology and business operations, the Strategic Planning Group and the Office of Technology Transfer. Joyce has more than 20 years experience in technology development and general management. He came to Argonne from the position of chief technology officer for TechnologyConnect, a technology consulting firm in Massachusetts. In that position, he evolved the company business plan focusing on the business side of technology consulting, sales and licensing, and managed development of database technologies for “discovery” data mining and business-to-business exchange. Before that, he was senior vice president of JDH Technologies LLC, which developed software for collaboration and e-learning; President of Muhlbauer Inc., capital equipment supplier to the semiconductor, circuit board assembly and smart card industries; chief of staff and scientific advisor to the director of Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, and an assistant research professor and post doctoral fellow in the Physics Department at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Joyce earned his Ph.D. in physics from the College of William and Mary and his B.S. in physics from the University of Colorado, and completed the Darden Executive Program at the University of Virginia.

David Kluk | Laboratory Manager | NSL Analytical Services,
Inc.
Kluk heads the chemistry laboratory for the materials testing
firm NSL Analytical in Valley View, Ohio, where he oversees
a staff of about 27 chemists and analysts arranged in 4
primary departments to perform trace and standard bulk analyses,
as well as steel and alloys evaluations.

Dr. Amir Liba | Director, Elemental Analysis and Speciation Lab | UCLA Molecular Instrumentation Center
Amir Liba has been Director at the Elemental Analysis and Speciation Lab, UCLA Molecular Instrumentation Center, in Los Angeles, California for over three years, and is the current staff scientist for analysis and research. He oversees a staff of about 16 and processes an average of 300 different elemental analysis samples each month, which can vary wildly from biological fluids and tissues to paint, soils or water. Liba has a Ph.D., Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and a B.S., Biochemistry, from UCLA, Los Angeles, California
Dr. Derrick Mancini | Research Manager | Argonne National Laboratory
Dr. Mancini is the leader of the Microfabrication Section, APS Experimental Facilities Division of Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on advanced lithography, nanofabrication, beam-induced chemistry, X-ray microcharacterization, and synchrotron radiation instrumentation. He is the co-author of 120 publications, and a participant in the design and construction of six synchrotron beamlines. He received his PhD in physics from Uppsala University, Sweden.
Bill Odell | S+T Principal | HOK
Mr. Odell is a design principal with HOK Architects. He has been responsible for the design of a wide range of award winning projects. He directs HOKs Science + Technology Group and is one of the leaders in HOK’s sustainable design initiative. His work includes many early LEED rated buildings and other models of environmentally responsible buildings. He has spoken and written widely about design, environmental issues, sustainable design, environmental ethics and the future of design. He is on the LEED NC committee and helped draft the latest version of LEED – LEED 2.2 He is co-author of the HOK Guide to Sustainable Design.

Joe Phillips | President | Phillips Collaborative
Mr. Phillips is currently the president of Phillips Collaborative, LLC. He serves the science and technology community through the design and management of mission-critical facilities, integrating infrastructure with operations. Mr. Phillips has worked in management and project delivery for leading architectural and engineering design firms on projects worldwide for 20 years and has been a scientist and operations manager for the prior 15. He started Phillips Collaborative, a specialized professional services firm, in 2004 to more directly and accurately represent the unique demands of research and operations in complex capital facility planning and management. As a former scientist and laboratory manager, Mr. Phillips has experience as both a user and a client, which enables him to quickly develop an understanding of research operations, technical requirements, and the integration of complex and competing demands. By applying his science perspective, Mr. Phillips advocates the adoption of sustainable practices and building design without compromising the requirements of safety, scientific method, and productivity. He has served on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Core Committee responsible for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Application Guide for Laboratories and is a frequent lecturer and author on sustainable laboratory design and operations.

Dr. Sudhir Sahasrabudhe | CSO | Prolexys Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Chief Scientific Officer of Prolexys Inc. He is also the scientific founder and a director of the company. Most recently, he was Executive Vice President for Research and Development at Myriad Genetics. At Myriad Genetics Dr. Sahasrabudhe was responsible for managing the Human Genetics, Bioinformatics, and Proteomics technology platforms. He joined Myriad Genetics from Aventis Pharmaceuticals, where he was senior director of U.S. Biotechnology responsible for all biotechnology activities within the United States. Dr. Sahasrabudhe represented Aventis on the board of the SNP Consortium, Ltd. Dr. Sahasrabudhe also oversaw the Cambridge Genomics Center and other genomics facilities for Aventis, as well as programs in transgenics, gene expression and disease genomics. At Aventis he was responsible for coordinating and prioritizing Lead Generation activities such as Medicinal Chemistry, high throughput screening, supply of reagents needed to execute the high-throughput screens, and assay development. Dr. Sahasrabudhe is on the Scientific Advisory Board of Silico Insights, Inc. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Utah State University Research Foundation and a member of the Board of Associates of the MIT Whitehead Institue. Dr. Sahasrabudhe earned his B.S., M.S., and doctorate degree in Microbiology (1987) from University of Baroda, in Baroda, India. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Molecular Biology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Michael J. Schlosser, Ph.D., D.A.B.T. | President, Founder | Midwest BioResearch, LLC
Michael Schlosser serves as the President of MBR. As president, his responsibilities include providing strategic direction, forming alliances with complementary CROs and experts, and ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity. Mike has 15 years of experience within the pharmaceutical industry and 25 years of experience in toxicology. Prior to founding MBR, he was Senior Director of Safety Sciences at Pfizer/Pharmacia (formerly Searle/Monsanto). Prior to that, he served as the Director of Experimental Toxicology and Pathology at Astra Pharmaceuticals. Mike was also the Head of Experimental Toxicology at Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals. Mike holds a Ph.D. in toxicology and pharmacology from the University of Mississippi. He was certified as Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) in 1990.

Debby Sherman | Manager, Life Science Microscopy Facility | Purdue University
Ms. Sherman was appointed as Director/Manager of the Life Science Microscopy Facility at Purdue University in 2000. This facility offers full sample preparation and imaging service as well as training for multi-user access. Since that time she has secured funds, primarily through national major equipment grant initiatives, to add or upgrade 4 electron microscopes including two state-of-the-art scanning electron microscopes and 2 transmission electron microscopes. In addition she has secured funding for light microscopes, and various preparation equipment. Ms. Sherman teaches two graduate level method courses in microscopy and participates actively in research projects with various investigators. She has ~ 50 research papers in major scientific journals as well as numerous contributions in other publications. Ms. Sherman has a B.S. degree from University of Pittsburgh and an M.S. degree from the University of Chicago. She has worked in various technical capacities in microscopy facilities throughout her research career including lab manager since 1989.

Otto Van Geet, P.E. | Senior Engineer | National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Mr. Van Geet is a Senior Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), working in the Federal Energy Management Program. Prior to this assignment, Otto was the Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Site Operations group at NREL, and a Mechanical Engineer at Sandia National Laboratories. Mr. Van Geet has been involved in the design, construction, and operation of energy efficient R&D facilities for microelectronics, photovoltaic, thermal, and biological research, as well as office and general use facilities. Mr. Van Geet has been involved with the Labs21 program since its inception and provides technical guidance for the program. His experience also includes passive solar building design, use of design tools, photovoltaic (PV) system design, energy audits, and minimizing energy use. Mr. Van Geet is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Energy Manager, a LEED® Accredited Professional, and a Project Management Professional. Otto is also a member of ASHRAE and ASES and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico.

Daniel Watch | Science & Technology Market Sector and Discipline Leader | Perkins + Will
Mr. Watch’s history of award winning design, significant international experience and emphasis on architecture as well as city planning provides Perkins+Will and their clients with a unique and well-versed talent. Mr. Watch leads, coordinates and supports the design efforts in Perkins+Will’s laboratory studio to help assure the highest quality facilities possible within each client’s budget. In addition to his design responsibilities, Mr. Watch is also responsible for lab planning and equipment planning. Mr. Watch has written a book entitled Research Laboratories that has been published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in the Fall of 2001. He was also invited to the National Institutes of Health and Harvard University as a guest lecturer to speak on laboratory design in the summer of 2001 and 2002. Mr. Watch explains his approach towards architecture and planning as being “Original, skillful and affordable. Originality is in the creative resolution of specific needs and aspirations of the clients, skill is represented in the detail of the actual construction, and affordability by providing the highest quality design within the project budget.”
